Help needed for animals affected by Hurricane Florence: What we can do
Donations and adoption are the best ways to save animals’ lives. Here are a few organizations facilitating both:
-
The Atlanta Humane Society: This organization worked ahead of the storm to get animals on the Carolina coast out of harm’s way and say they will take in as many animals as there is a need for. They are asking for donations through Facebook, which will be matched by a private donor until September 30.
-
The Charleston Animal Society, American Humane and the Humane Society of the United States are among the organizations running similar donation drives.
-
Adopt! Shelters are encouraging people outside the storm-affected areas to foster or adopt. Some are waiving or discounting fees. Here are some local organizations: Greenville Humane Society, The Humane Society of Charlotte, Pender County Animal Shelter, and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Coastal Animal Rescue.
